I'm fairly new to the city and am currently looking into using a printmaking studio, either through a school or otherwise. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Re: Printmaking studios in San Francisco?
Thu, March 2, 2006 - 10:03 PMHi there. I'm in the south bay (San Jose area). There are plenty of possibilities in and around the city as far as I know. The first the comes to mind is the Kala institute in Berkeley (www.kala.org). They also have nice classes there. A bit further south is foothill college but that might be too far for you. And I'm sure that at the SF Art institute there are possibilities. Oh, and of course - there is the SF Center for the book which you absolutely have to check out. I think the URL is www.sfcb.org or such.
HOpe that gets you started. If not, feel free to ping me directly :)

Re: Printmaking studios in San Francisco?
Sat, April 8, 2006 - 3:31 PMThere are a few that I know about. Probably more.
One studio where I have not printed, but I have some friends who do: is the Graphic Arts Workshop
gaw.zpub.com/index.php
Another place where there is a great press and cheap classes is City College
www.ccsf.edu/
And finally, I have taken some classes from Katie Gilmartin in SomaArts. She has a great press in her studio and if you're a student, she has a few open printing times per year. But mostly it's for classes.
katiegilmartin.com/
cheers!
